There are 25 million Muslims in China, with 8.5 million of them in Xinjiang. They are the largest identifiable religious group in the country. They are found in small communities all over China but only in large numbers in the extreme west and northwest—the eastern extreme of the Muslim world. China has the potential to be the world’s largest Islamic nation.
